Hello!

With many countries across the world in lockdown as we all seek to halt the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), many charities are facing a black hole in their finances as their charity shops have had to close and many fundraising events have been cancelled.

The Time Scope charity anthology seeks to pull together submissions about Doctor Who and the extended Whoniverse from writers and artists in an e-book which will be sold to raise funds for Scope, the disability equality charity in England and Wales which provides support for disabled people and their families.

What we're after:

Short stories (1 000 words maximum)
Flash fiction (very short stories, any length up to 500 words)
Artwork (orientated portrait will make formatting easier)
Poetry
Any other creative suggestions!
We will consider factual submissions too (not reviews)

Themes:

The main theme of this anthology is connection. Think togetherness, family, friendship and the bonds that bind us in the context of the Doctor Who universe.

Friendships between various Doctors and their companions may be a starting point. Contemporary characters reflecting on lockdown could be fertile ground. But don't feel constrained - the Whoniverse is vast and we welcome your ideas! The aim is to produce an uplifting piece to combat lockdown blues - so if submitting stories, keep it light and family friendly!

The title Time Scope is a play on the Time Scoop from The Five Doctors and Scope, the name of the charity. Like the Time Scoop, Time Scope will be bringing a variety of Doctor Who characters together.

Restrictions:

For rights reasons, no direct references to the Thirteenth Doctor or characters or content that debuted in Doctor Who Series 11 and 12, Daleks, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, K9, Doctor Ruth or Timeless Children. Characters exclusive to non-televised spin-off media may be problematic too.

Dates:

With the duration of lockdown an uncertainty, for logistical reasons this anthology needs to be turned around and produced for sale quickly! Time is of the essence!

Pitch your idea as soon as possible, ideally by midnight on Monday 27th April 2020 which is the deadline for open submissions. If you're reading this after this date and are interested, do still get in touch but please be aware I may not be able to take your pitch further as I will have moved on to the next stage of the project.

Completed works would be needed by Monday 4th May 2020 ideally. The quicker you can submit the better!

Guidelines:

Please submit your pitch as soon as possible to: timescope2020@gmail.com

Please provide an outline of your idea, for example:
·         a plot synopsis for a short story with an idea of the word count
·         a description of the artwork

If you have written before or have a portfolio of artwork please provide a sample or link to this. We welcome newcomers too!

All submissions must be your own original work not published anywhere else and should be treated as exclusive to the e-book (e.g. not shared in full on social media). You are very welcome to submit more than one idea.

For the avoidance of doubt, as this is a charity fundraiser with all proceeds going to Scope, we cannot pay for submissions as we have no budget for this. Your work will be given as a voluntary contribution.

Please note, unfortunately, submitting a pitch or completed work does not guarantee your work will be featured in the anthology owing to the volume of interest in the project. I will let you know either way whether your work will be included or not.

Any questions - just get in touch! E-mail timescope2020@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time and interest in supporting Scope with this project!

Kind regards,

Matthew Rimmer
